Robber Snatches Lady’s Phone At Gunpoint In PH; Mocks Her On Facebook
An armed robber in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has done the unthinkable after he snatched the mobile phone of a student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe university and took the daring step of uploading his own picture on his victim’s Facebook account (Gabrilla Uchechi Eberechukwu).
This happened on Thursday and the unidentified suspect, who changed the victim’s profile picture on Facebook to his, even went as far as sharing an update which then elicited a barrage of abusive comments for his confidence. See screenshots below:
One of Eberechukwu’s friends, Ifunanya Joy, commented on the picture, “You stole my friend’s phone. You are a big thief” to which he replied with a laughing emoji.
Joy explained that she had spoken with her friend who explained that the man had taken control of her Facebook account and did not know what to do.
“She doesn’t even know what is going on with her Facebook now,” Joy said.
The suspect’s photograph has been circulating on the social media with messages for help in locating him.

EFCC Discovers Diezani’s $37.5m Banana Island Lagos Mansion
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has discovered a $37.5m (N11.75bn) luxury high-rise building on Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, allegedly belonging to the embattled former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke.
This is just as the EFCC revealed on Friday that it discovered $9.3m and £74,000 belonging to a former Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Andrew Yakubu. The money was allegedly kept in a bungalow situated in the slums of Kaduna.
The two discoveries were made as part of investigations into a string of fraudulent activities in the NNPC, which cost the nation over $20bn at a time the oil price stood at about $100 per barrel on the
average
According to impeccable sources within the EFCC, the building allegedly belonging to Diezani was purchased between 2011 and 2012. It is situated in the same estate where Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, resides.
Saturday PUNCH learnt that the building comprises 18 flats and six penthouses.
Properties on Banana Island are believed to be among the most expensive in Africa with a plot of land selling between $4m (N1.25bn) and $6m (N1.8bn), according to Forbes Magazine.
A source at the EFCC said, “The aggressive drive by the EFCC to recover all hidden assets of former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is under investigation for corruption and money laundering, produced another breakthrough this week with the discovery of a property acquired through shell companies by the former minister at upscale Banana Island in Lagos.
“The property is a 15-storey edifice comprising 18 flats and six penthouses.
“The property was acquired by the former minister between 2011 and 2012 at a total cost of $37.5m from the developers, YF Construction Development and Real Estate.
The property was allegedly acquired in the name of a shell company, Rusimpex Limited under the control of certain Mr. Afamefuna Nwokedi of Stillwaters law firm, in Lagos.”
Last year, the commission seized an $18m mansion in the Asokoro area of Abuja allegedly belonging to the ex-minister.
She has, however, denied all the allegations leveled against her.
Meanwhile, the commission has recovered $9.7m and £74,000 from a former GMD of the NNPC, Mr. Andrew Yakubu.
Ironically, Yakubu, who served as the head of the corporation between 2012 and 2014, is the key witness of the EFCC against the Chairman of Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited and Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited, Jide Omokore, who is standing trial for an alleged $1.6bn fraud.
The EFCC said in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, that the money was found in a safe hidden in a slum in Kaduna State.
The statement read in part, “A special operation conducted by operatives of the EFCC on February 3, 2017 on a building belonging to a former Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Andrew Yakubu, in Kaduna yielded the recovery of a staggering sum of $9,772,800.

Okowa Didn’t Lose $10m To Girlfriend, Says Delta
The Delta State Government has distanced the state Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, from an online report claiming he defrauded the state of $10m, only to lose the money to an unnamed girlfriend living in the United States of America.
The money, it was reported, was part of the bailout given to the state by the Federal Government to offset workers’ salaries.
The Nation newspaper on Saturday, January 28, 2017 reported that an unnamed Niger Delta governor lost a diverted bailout sum of $10m to a girlfriend. Quoting sources in the Economic and Financial
Crimes Commission, the newspaper stated that the serving governor was already under probe by the EFCC.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, in a statement on behalf of the government, stressed that there was no iota of truth in the story that it was Okowa who lost the money to a girlfriend.
Ukah said:
“We are appalled by the attempt to link Governor Okowa with the story by online media. We find it ridiculously tasteless and mischievous. This can only be part of the unrelenting campaign of calumny and the ceaseless peddling of pernicious propaganda against the person and the office of the Delta State Governor. “For the record, the state government has several times in the past given account of how the bailout the state got from the Federal Government was used. We will not repeat ourselves here. “Governor Okowa is a responsible family man and a well respected public figure. “His preoccupation has been and continues to be how to deliver on his promised S.M.A.R.T agenda to the good people of Delta State since he came to office. And he has received applause and commendations from far and near for being so focused and unrelenting in the pursuit of his vision for the state.” The statement warned that if
“those who are bent on carrying out their devious and dubious campaign of calumny against the governor refuse to stop this infamous trade of theirs, we reserve the right to take any action deemed appropriate to seek redress.”

Pastor Arrested For Fraud In Osun Attempts Suicide In Cell
A 46 year-old pastor, Joseph Afolayan, who was arrested by the police in Osun State for alleged fraud, has attempted to hang himself in the police cell.
Afolayan, a pastor with Freed Zone Church in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, was arrested alongside his female friend, Miss Bimbo Olanrewaju.
It was learnt that the pastor requested a financial help of N600,000 from Olanrewaju, saying he needed the money to clear some goods he was expecting from Canada.
Olanrewaju and the pastor were said to have fraudulently obtained a sum of N450,000 from one
Mathew Odeleye, while the pastor fled after allegedly defrauding Mathew of N450,000.
Mathew lodged a complaint at a police station and the police arrested Olanrewaju, but could not get Afolayan.
To get the pastor, the police were said to have asked Olanrewaju to call the pastor and tell him to come to collect N150,000 to complete the money that he needed to clear the goods.
Punch reports that when the pastor went to collect the money, he was arrested by the police and detained for further investigation.
The pastor then attempted to kill himself in the police cell because of the shame the alleged act brought to him.
He was arraigned before a magistrate court sitting in Osogbo immediately after the alleged failed suicide attempt in the cell.
A police prosecutor, Mr. Sunday Ajayi, brought the defendants to court on counts of stealing; obtaining money under false pretences and attempted suicide, while Olanrewaju was charged with stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.
The charges read in part,
“That you, Bimbo Olanrewaju and Joseph Afolayan, sometime in May 2015, on Mabinu Street, in the Jaye area of Osogbo, in the Osogbo Magisterial District, did conspire together to commit felony, to wit; obtaining money under false pretences.
“That you did steal the sum of N450,000, property of one Mathew Odeleye, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Law of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.
“That you, Joseph Afolayan, on January 18, 2017, at about 9am, in the custody of the Oke Odo Police Division, in the aforementioned magisterial district, did attempt to commit suicide by using your shirt to tighten your neck in the cell, in other to take your life, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 327 of the Criminal Code 34, Vol. II, Law of Osun State of Nigeria.”The two accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against them.
The magistrate, Mrs. Falilat Sodamade, granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 each and adjourned the case till February 20, reports Punch.

Man Slaps Taxi Driver Into Coma Over Buhari's Death Rumour
A man who hails from Kano state, Usman Bukar, 41, has slapped a taxi driver to coma in Delta state for spreading “Buhari is dead rumour”.
The man was slapped into deep unconsciousness at the Temple Clinic Junction Asaba.
Eye witness account said that Bukar pounced on the driver who was seen visibly happy and spreading the rumour at a newspaper stand, popularly known as “free readers association” after he had read from a blog that Buhari is dead.
He was reported to have said:
“The body of the President should be thrown into River-Niger for fish and other wild animals to do justice on him. He is very wicked.” At this statement, Bukar who also was part of the free readers’ association got annoyed and gave him a dirty slap that sent him to pulp. The driver was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he was being revived.
However, the account said that the relatives of the taxi driver were then called. When they came, they wanted to fight the Kano man, a situation that might have resulted to bloodshed but for the timely intervention of the police.
Vanguard reports that the spokesman of Delta state police command Andrew Aniamaka confirmed that the victim is receiving treatment adding that the alleged attacker had been arrested and detained for interrogation.

The presiding pastor of Miracle House of God Prophetic Ministry in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, Prophet Great Emokpae, who was accused of being involved in an amorous affair with the wife of one Anthony Ehikioya, has denied the allegation.

The police had also launched a manhunt for the pastor, after he reportedly fled the area.
But Emokpae, who spoke with journalists on Friday, said though he had earlier been threatened by the complainant, he was surprised to see the level of damage done to his church.
He noted that he had to run for his life when he saw the mob. He explained,

Heaven and God bear me witness; I don’t know what they have accused me about.”
The pastor also denied any connection with the fetish items said to have been found in the church.

The only things I make use of are my Bible, staff and girdle; any other thing, apart from the ones I mentioned, was brought by them.”The wife of the complainant said that she had been rebuked on several occasions by her husband for attending the church with her children.
Bridget said,
“I told my husband that if he thought that it (adultery) happened, he should take me to my people so that they would know what to do. He went to his people and told me not to enter his house again.” “I have been in Ekpoma since last Friday. I am innocent and the man (pastor) is innocent. The pastor is good to me and my family.
